American tennis player Tommy Paul won the 2024 Dallas Open on Sunday February 11, 2024, after defeating Marcos Giron 7-6 (3), 5-7, 6-3 at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex in the campus of Southern Methodist University.
26-year-old Paul currently ranks 14th in the ATP rankings, passing Frances Tiafoe (15th) and Shelton Blake (16th), who also played in the tournament.
“This is our second title, but our first one in the states, so this one feels the best by far,” Paul said acknowledging his coach, Brad Stine. It was the fourth ATP final for Paul. His previous title came in 2021 in Stockholm.
The 30-year-old Giron was trying to win his first ATP title. Giron won the second set after breaking serve in the 11th game, then the 67th-ranked player served to win the set without giving up a point. Paul then took the third set from Giron, who hadn’t lost a service game in Dallas before then.
The Dallas Open has been played on the SMU campus all three years since moving to Texas, but next year it will be played at Ford Center at The Star, the training facility of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys. That facility will have a fan capacity of about 6,000, up from around 2,100 at SMU.
