At approximately 5:30 p.m. on April 17th, the Grand Prairie Fire Department responded
to reports of a possible drowning at Joe Pool Lake. A witness indicated that a male was
last seen swimming near the beach area and restrooms, where he did not resurface.
The Grand Prairie Public Safety Dive Team conducted a search and recovered the body
of an adult male.
The male swimmer was not wearing a life vest. The identity of the deceased will be
released by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The City of Grand Prairie sends its condolences to the victim’s family. As the lake
season approaches, GPFD strongly encourages the public to wear a life vest or an
appropriate personal floating device while near the water.
