Local Grand Prairie funeral home owner and director, Sylvia Guerrero-Dean, received the prestigious Mildred Nimmo Lucas Lifetime Achievement Award from the North Texas Chapter of the Texas Funeral Directors Association. The award was presented on April 6, 2022, at the Semi-Annual Meeting in Colleyville. This award honors a woman for her dedication, commitment, and lifetime service to funeral service. It is presented for paving the way and being a role model for females in funeral service. Sylvia had a desire to be in the funeral profession since the age of 6 and has been a licensed embalmer/funeral director in the State of Texas since 1990.

Sylvia Guerrero-Dean and her husband, Mark Dean, established Guerrero-Dean Funeral Home in Grand Prairie in 2001. Since that time, she has been active in many volunteer and civic organizations in the community. She was an active member of Rotary International for many years, volunteering for events such as feeding the homeless, serving as a Girl Scout Leader, and mentoring young aspiring directors. She is a devoted member of her church, Heartland Church, “Mom” to 3 children, and “Nanna” to 4 grandchildren. She has served hundreds of families, providing comfort, care, and love in difficult times. Never one to expect acknowledgment, it is a well-deserved award. Our community is proud to congratulate her.
